May 17, 2014
Franco & Associates’ design for a universal structure that is prefabricated with existing technology, available throughout the world, assembled with non-skilled labor, and covered in local materials. The basic structure is composed of standard warehouse storage racks that can be assembled in less than one day. This concept is based on the pole houses of Southeast Asia. The structures are light and simple, and can be covered with local materials. The frame can be built on a concrete slab or raised piers made from local materials. The basic structure costs $2,500 U.S. 2010.
